Midwife, Abbey Birth Centre - Band 6 (Fixed Term - 6 months)
Job overview
We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate midwives to join our well established Abbey Birth Centre team at St Peters Hospital, and help us to shape the future for our maternity services. The Abbey Birth Centre has four birthing suites, three with birthing pools, creating a home from home ambience.
As a midwife working in our Birth Centre you will be at the forefront of supporting birth choices and bringing personalised care to women and birthing people, through optimising physiological labour and birth. The role will involve providing direct midwifery care in antenatal clinics, during labour, postnatal care and promoting the birth centre services. You will be supported to develop your skills and enhance your care provision, with opportunities including aromatherapy, biomechanics, moxibustion, acupuncture and waterbirth training may be offered.
Main duties of the job
* Promote a culture of optimising physiology in childbirth, being able to identify deviations from normal and ensure appropriate action is taken.
* To work as an experienced care provider taking the lead in caring for low risk women primarily within our birth centre, working in other areas of maternity services including homebirths as required.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Undertake clinical activity to satisfy NMC requirements for registration and act as a role model by maintaining clinical competence.
* To act as a role model and contribute to the professional development of junior staff and students through supervision, teaching and support.
* Provide and promote high quality midwifery care and advice within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Be an advocate for women and birthing people, ensuring informed choice and consent in all aspects of maternity care.
* Develop individualised care plans, involving the MDT in discussions on their behalf where plans may be classed as ‘out of guidance’.
* Participate in the process of audit and research to evaluate clinical practice and guidelines and in the implementation of change.
