Job Description: Grant Thornton’s Financial Services Tax team provides tax advisory, transactions and compliance services to clients in the Financial Services market across Wealth and Asset Management, Banking and Capital Market, and Insurance sectors.
Our Wealth and Asset Management team is one of the fastest growing areas of Grant Thornton’s Financial Services Tax practice. We have ambitious growth plans and are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Associate Director with a strong UK corporation tax and funds background to work within this team in London.
The team’s client portfolio spans the breadth of the Wealth and Asset Management sector, serving:
1. Traditional asset managers
2. Financial services institutions
3. Alternative funds asset managers across all asset classes including:
1. Private equity
2. Private credit
3. Venture capital
4. Hedge funds
5. Real estate
6. Infrastructure
7. Wealth managers
8. UK pension funds
9. Global institutional investors
We combine technical expertise with a commercial approach to build a strong trusted adviser relationship with our clients. The wealth and asset management industry is dynamic, technically demanding and global, giving you the opportunity to work on:

Additionally, you will be working with the wider Grant Thornton International network and the national tax practice which offers specialised services in areas such as:
* Innovation tax
* Employment taxes
* VAT
* Real estate
Part of the role will focus on working alongside the partner group in building out the practice and building strong client relationships within the current and target client base. A look into the role
As a Tax Associate Director you will:
1. Work with the partner/director, with responsibility for the management of a significant portfolio of asset management clients. Whilst the work in this role is mainly tax compliance, covering both funds and asset managers, you would be responsible for the delivery of all tax compliance and advisory work, working with specialists in other areas or internationally as appropriate.
2. Be responsible for ensuring the work is completed in adherence with the firm’s QRM procedures and to deadlines for multiple engagements.
3. Be responsible for financial management including billing and debtor management.
4. Develop junior team members through on-the-job training and coaching.
5. Use and assist with the ongoing development of the firm’s Reporting Fund automation tool, where appropriate, for the preparation of the calculations, assisting with improvements to the tool and taking the tool to market.
Knowing you’re right for us
Joining the Financial Services team as a Associate Director the minimum criteria you’ll need is a professional qualification (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent), and to be confident managing a portfolio of clients. It would be great if you also had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box; we’ll help you develop along the way:
* Knowledge of the offshore funds legislation and reporting fund regulations.
* Taxation of UK OEICs, Investment trusts, VCTs, treaty eligibility and withholding tax reclaims, cross border investments and investors, and asset managers (both corporates and LLPs).
* Excellent tax technical skills and a desire to learn more in new areas.
* Strong commitment to client service, looking to always add value.
* Clear and effective communication style to work with clients and internal teams.
* Self-motivated and strong team player.
* Experience of coaching and developing more junior team members.
* Strong business development skills with a desire to grow the business and the team.
* Familiarity with Alpha tax, CCH personal tax, Power BI, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
