Consultant Psychiatrist Avondale Assessment Unit
We are recruiting for a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist on our assessment unit (Avondale) at Miranda House in Hull.
Avondale is a 14 bedded in-patient facility, based in inner city Hull and offers assessment for people with a variety of mental health needs across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
As the Consultant Psychiatrist on Avondale, an ability to work within a fast-paced team is essential. The average length of stay on the unit is around 4 days, and then an individual is either discharged back into the community or transferred to one of our treatment wards for continuation of their recovery.
The MDT works efficiently and effectively. It is comprised of professionals with a wide range of input and knowledge from experienced colleagues. These include nursing staff, occupational therapy, social work, pharmacy, and junior medical colleagues. This enables the assessment process to take place in a timely and decisive manner.
The post holder will join an established team of Specialist Consultant Psychiatrists in Working Age Adults alongside a wider established network of consultants covering all sub-specialties. There is weekly teaching and weekly peer-group events to support professional and personal development.
Main duties of the job
* Have clinical responsibility for assessing and reviewing people who access our services.
* Have Responsible Clinician status and be Section 12 approved.
* Provide senior medical leadership to the multi-disciplinary team.
* Undertake the assessment and management of complex cases referred and to care plan, to provide treatment formulation and guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
* Develop professional relationships with colleagues promoting multi-disciplinary working.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
Eligibility
Essential Criteria
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Essential Criteria
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Excellent knowledge in specialty
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
Desirable criteria
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Essential Criteria
ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
* Ability to work in and lead team
* Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.

* Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
