We are a diverse group of Emergency Consultants with many special interests and new colleagues are actively supported to develop or expand their area of specialist interest through personalised, flexible job plans.
Successful applicants will work as part of a group of over 30 ED Consultants on a 24-week whole time equivalent rota to provide senior medical staff on site presence 08:00-00:00 with weekend working one in eight weekends.
The team works equally across 2 sites, with Pinderfields Hospital being our Major Emergency Department and designated Major Trauma Unit. Both Dewsbury and Pinderfields have 24/7 separate dedicated children's EDs.
Please be aware that the Mid Yorkshire Emergency Departments plan to introduce on-site night shift working. There is ongoing recruitment to expand consultant numbers to facilitate this. For new consultant starters, there is an expectation that they will be part of a future night shift workforce.
Main duties of the job
1. Providing high quality care to patients attending the Emergency Department
2. Ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making supporting the sustained delivery of the Emergency Care Standard
3. Providing clinical leadership and supervision to other clinicians working within the Emergency Dept.
4. Participating in the development of the Trust's Emergency Medicine service including QIPS, protocols and guidelines
5. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with clinicians both internally and externally
6. Providing and delivering educational opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate level
7. Participating in on-call duties shared within the team on a 24-week rolling rota with 3:24 weekend working
8. Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space, secretarial support, and networked computer facilities are provided
9. Supporting Professional Activities with at least a minimum of SPA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service, such as teaching or departmental leadership roles.

Essential Qualifications
1. Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
2. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine or recognised within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent)
Desirable Qualifications
1. Computer literate
2. Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
Management Skills
Essential
1. Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
2. Good time management.
Desirable
1. Possess good organisational and personal management skills
Essential Qualifications
1. Medical Degree from recognised medical school
2. FRCEM
3. Awarded a CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent or within 6 months of entry to the GMC Specialist Register
4. Provider status in ATLS/ALS and APLS (or EPLS)
5. Royal College of Emergency Medicine Level 1 Ultrasound competency
Desirable Qualifications
1. Instructor status in any ATLS/ALS/APLS (or EPLS)
2. Dual accreditation in ITU/PHEM
