To provide an efficient helpful Reception service to the Practice and ensure that Practice data is collected, stored, maintained and retrieved effectively whilst continually providing patient confidentiality. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Reception and routing of patients on arrival Answering general enquiries, making new and follow-up appointments and generally advising patients on non clinical matters Use computerised appointment system as per training Sorting and distributing incoming mail Ensure Doctor/Nurse patient call system is in working order Record requests for home visits Ensuring an adequate supply of stationary etc in the consulting rooms and reception area Receiving samples, logging and ensuring the correct forms accompany them to the laboratory Receiving and recording telephone messages for the Doctor/Nurse/ Health Visitor Booking ambulances for patient hospital appointments or admissions Taking request for repeat prescriptions and preparing them on the computer for collection Dealing appropriately with outgoing mail Liaison with hospitals, primary health care team, community services and social services Using photocopier machine when necessary Ensuring that the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues together with any information about unresolved or urgent matters Cover other members of staff during holiday or sick leave Any other work deemed to be necessary by the Doctor/Practice Manager to fulfil the role of Medical Receptionist The Job description is not intended to be exhaustive but to indicate the main areas of responsibility
