Mechanical Fitter – Grounds Maintenance Equipment

Position Overview: Our client is looking for a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our team in Morden. As a Mechanical Fitter for grounds maintenance equipment, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and servicing of a range of machinery used in groundskeeping, including lawnmowers, tractors, leaf blowers, and other outdoor equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently. A valid driving license is essential for this role, as you will be required to travel between sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on a range of grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, hedge trimmers, and other tools.
* Perform routine maintenance and servicing on equipment, ensuring it operates efficiently and safely.
* Inspect and replace worn or damaged parts, including engines, hydraulics, belts, and electrical systems.
* Conduct preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns and prolong the lifespan of equipment.
* Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used and work completed.
* Work closely with the grounds maintenance team to ensure that equipment is available, safe, and ready for use.
* Identify and order necessary parts, maintaining good stock levels to avoid equipment downtime.
* Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
* Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines when servicing equipment.
* Provide technical support and advice to other team members on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
* Drive company vehicles to transport equipment to different locations as required.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or in a similar role, ideally working with grounds maintenance or agricultural equipment.
* A valid driving license is required to drive company vehicles and transport equipment between locations.
* Strong mechanical and technical skills, with experience in diagnosing and repairing engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
* Knowledge of grounds maintenance machinery, such as lawnmowers, tractors, and hedge trimmers.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure equipment is in excellent working condition.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly.
* Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
* Ability to read and understand technical manuals, diagrams, and service reports.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of work.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Health and safety awareness and the ability to work in compliance with safety regulations.
Working Conditions:
* Work will be carried out both in the workshop and on-site, depending on the nature of the equipment.
* Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
* Occasional travel to other locations for equipment repairs and maintenance.
* Includes lifting and carrying equipment, working with machinery, and manual tasks.
* The role involves operating a company vehicle, so a valid driving license is essential.
