This role involves delivering direct clinical care, assisting in clinical decision-making, and sharing equally in the department's workload to ensure comprehensive senior clinical cover.
Key responsibilities include the assessment and management of patients, covering ward rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings, and stroke and TIA clinics. The specialist doctor will aid consultants in reviewing potential admissions, developing rapid assessment triage strategies, and ensuring timely investigations and patient disposition. This will serve as part of training and development towards providing thrombolysis.
A keen interest in stroke, stroke mimics, and TIA is essential. The specialist doctor will also cover colleagues during leave periods, participate in clinical audit activities, and ensure proper patient handover. Active engagement in clinical leadership, improving patient experience, and delivering high-quality care alongside medical, nursing, and management teams is expected.
Additionally, the role involves contributing to the education and professional development of the department's staff, including supervision of junior medical staff and involvement in recruitment, appraisal, and mentoring activities.
