Over the last 18 months there has been considerable focus on crime recording both in force and nationally and during this time there has been a significant improvement to our crime recording accuracy. We are looking for motivated and knowledgeable applicants with a desire to keep improving crime recording and crime data integrity within Avon & Somerset Police.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a number of Crime Recording Officers to join our Force Inspection and Crime Standards Unit. You will be trained to use multiple bespoke police computer systems and in addition, you will receive training to have an extensive knowledge of the Home Office Counting Rules legislation, policy and procedures.
As a Crime Recorder you are required to accurately record a crime to a high standard within agreed timescales, identify further crimes that require recording and link incidents all in accordance with the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) and force policies.

Weekend enhancement - 270.27 hours per annum for the 540.54 hours worked
Shift percentage - 14% Hours per week - 37
In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
* Work effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives, providing support and advice as required using suitable communication methods.
* Update case management systems and other role relevant systems.
* Liaise with customers internally and externally and update them when required both verbally and in written format.
* To communicate and share best practice with the wider team, organisation and partner agencies.
* Ensure the quality of data, identify any anomalies and maintain the integrity of the relevant force systems.
* To maintain personal knowledge and expertise of Home office counting rules, policies and procedures, acting as subject matter experts within the force in the application of the HOCR and NCRS.
* To apply home office counting rules, policies and procedures to all work streams.
* To risk assess the impact of crime upon victims and flag as appropriate.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
* Excellent IT skills using all Microsoft packages and bespoke computer programs
* Decision making experience
* Experience of excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences
* Experience of researching information
* Ability to prioritise own workload
* It would be desirable to also have an understanding of Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS), investigative processes, policies and knowledge of criminal law.
Additional Information:
You will need to be prepared to work a variety of shifts, which will include a proportion of weekends, evenings and bank holidays. In addition to your basic salary, you will also receive shift allowances which will enhance your salary to £33,415 - £36,675 per annum.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, Police Headquarters, Portishead. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager, but this is anticipated to be one day per shift set.
We anticipate that this role would commence in September 2025 for an initial 3 week training course.
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year checkable history in the UK ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
