A 12 month placement is available within our Engineering department based at Burton upon Trent. The role involves working in an industrial environment as part of a team that is responsible for the manufacture and quality assurance of rubber compound, textile and metallic fabric components used in the production of tyres. Typical machines used are Calendars, Banbury Internal Mixers, 2 Roll Mills and Batch-off Machines.
Main duties include:
1. Working as part of our project engineering team to work on improvement projects, both planning and implementation.
2. Breakdown analysis & OEE improvement
3. Working in a factory environment, coming into contact with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC control/ automation and steam and water tempering systems, supporting the Maintenance and Engineering Department
4. Taking responsibility for work related projects with the assistance of the Project Team
5. Engaging with a variety of people including the Production Manager, Engineering Manager, Workshop Engineering Supervisors, Project Managers and Purchasing Department
6. Liaising with our suppliers and subcontractors
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
7. Adjusting, reading, and interpreting technical drawings
8. Raising purchase requests, monitoring OEE and recording all details
9. Electronically filing correct material documentation, for projects and technical specifications
10. Assisting the Project Team with all projects, CAPEX or improvement projects from design through to commissioning stage.
11. Promoting a positive health and safety culture
12. Liaising with internal and external clients on technical and commercial issues
13. Establish priorities in workflow, liaising with our workshop and technical staff to ensure that they have a clear and concise understanding of the jobs
14. Assist Engineering Manager where required
Our requirements:
15. Studying to degree level
16. Good keyboard skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
17. CAD user preferable (Autocad LT & Solidworks)
18. Organisational skills and self-motivated, able to work on your own initiative in a fast-paced environment.
19. Good communication skills, and able to work effectively as part of a team
20. Flexibility and adaptable to change
21. Ability to turn knowledge and skills into hands on investigation and problem solving
22. A full clean driving licence is desirable, as there may be an opportunity to travel to our Carlisle site
