The role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Group in this role of Ward Manager to support the Clinical Services Manager and Centre Director in the day-to-day clinical/ nursing aspects of patients on one of our specialist nursing floors/ units. Providing nursing leadership the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the nursing and care teams are enabled and empowered to deliver the highest standards of care to our Patients. Working closely with the Clinical Services Managers in the Centre to ensure best practice, effective resource allocation and nursing workforce development through effective, visible and compassionate leadership.
You will be an experienced nurse (at least band 6 or above) and will have a good practical and theoretical knowledge of nursing procedures. Exposure to, and working with patients with a tracheostomy/ ventilator will be a distinct advantage, although we offer a comprehensive competency based training programme for tracheostomy and ventilator care if not.
Scope
* To support the Clinical Services Manager in ensuring outstanding care is delivered to Patients in line with best practice and the Fairlie Healthcare Group's Core Values and Values Framework, ensuring Patients are treated with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
* To support the Registered Nursing Staff to ensure they are empowered and enabled to manage their allocated clinical area effectively.
* To collate clinical information for quality and dashboarding purposes, ensuring accuracy and integrity of clinical data.
* To provide nursing and clinical leadership to the Registered Nursing Staff and Care Staff acting as a role model to ensure the highest standards of Patient care are delivered at all times including ensuring Group Operating and Clinical Policies are implemented and followed.

To provide visible leadership to the nursing and care team to enable outstanding care to be delivered to our patients throughout the assigned floor and to foster effective relationships with Patients, their families and significant others and external professionals and visitors to the Centre.
Regulatory Compliance
* Ensuring the assigned floor operates within the regulatory framework and to support the Centre Director to achieve and maintain an outstanding rating with the Regulator during the inspection process and intelligence data provision.
* Ensure all clinical CQC notifications and other clinical/ non-clinical events are reported and to participate in investigations, data collection and debrief of clinical and other related events as directed by the Clinical Services Director or Centre Director.
Clinical
* Working as part of the MDT to ensure defined and assessed needs of patients on the assigned floor are met, in line with evidence based practice and defined in the Patient's Care Plan and to effectively manage clinical risk.
* To ensure care plans are kept up to date, reflect current care needs, are sufficiently personalised and are reviewed and updated in line with current Group and other legal requirements.
* To provide nursing leadership to the qualified nursing staff allocated to the assigned floor, acting as a role model and encouraging service development in relation to nursing practice.
* To be aware of Patient clinical dependencies and build effective partnership relationships with Patients and their significant others. To undertake pre-admission assessments as directed by the Clinical Services Manager or Centre Director as appropriate.
* Ensuring the assigned floor/ clinical area is safely staffed in respect of skill mix, competency and numbers of staff with regards to Patient dependencies, clinical risk and appropriate resource allocation as per the Centre's agreed Establishment Hours. Ensuring the rota system is updated in real time including the sign-off of anomalies.
* To have an overview of the medicines management system to ensure medicines on the assigned floor are ordered, stored, given and disposed of in line with the medicines management policies, and that all nursing staff are trained, competent and supervised in the administration of medicines.
* To coordinate and drive service improvement from the Clinical and Quality Dashboards where clinical performance KPIs are out of target, including the oversight of clinical events reported to ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place to that mistakes/ errors and events are thoroughly investigated, action plans are devised and implemented and lessons are learned. This includes initial complaint handling/ investigation and feedback.
* To act as the clinical areas/ assigned floors Infection Prevention and Control lead.
What do I need to be successful?
The Candidate
* Having an active NMC Pin Number you will be a strong advocate for excellence in nursing and patient care and have the required communication skills to enable and empower nurses and healthcare assistants to enhance their practice and their professional development. You will be passionate about nursing and patient care and be able to demonstrate a proven track record in a similar role with a comparable organisation.
* An experienced nurse, both clinically and with exposure to staff management, experience/ expertise in tracheostomy and community ventilator management (such as the Nippy series of ventilators) would be a distinct advantage. However, our Learning and Development Department have an excellent competency based learning programme for those nursing without this exposure.
