The Role: Category Buyer
We're looking for a Category Buyer to take ownership of a strategic category and drive growth. Reporting to the Category Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering our 270m business plan, ensuring supplier relationships, category strategies, and commercial performance are optimised.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier & Contract Management - Manage supplier relationships, conduct quarterly business reviews, and oversee contract compliance.
2. Category Strategy & Growth - Develop a 3-year category strategy, driving sustainable business volume growth and maximising commercial value.
3. Procurement Leadership - Own key steps of the Foodbuy Procurement Framework (FPF), from business needs assessment to implementation.
4. Client & Consumer Focus - Work closely with Compass & external clients, ensuring optimal category spend and implementation of agreed supply chains.
5. Service & Performance Management - Monitor distributor service levels to ensure they exceed business expectations and drive volume growth.
6. Market & Competitor Insights - Leverage market data and supplier relationships to establish category leadership.
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience in buying/procurement, preferably within the food sector
* A world-class negotiator with strong commercial acumen
* Experience identifying growth opportunities and optimising supplier relationships
* Excellent project management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities
* Strong analytical abilities, able to translate data into actionable insights
