Your role
We are looking for a talented and experienced Software Development Manager to lead our dynamic team in Manchester, working on PicoScope 7, the world’s leading oscilloscope software. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in maintaining PicoScope 7’s position as the best in its field while fostering a positive and productive team environment.
As the Software Development Manager, you will oversee a team of five developers, ranging from Junior to Lead level, guiding their growth and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions. You will also work closely with the Product Owner, Tester, and DevOps Engineer based in the Manchester office, as well as the larger development team in St Neots.
You’ll be responsible for the smooth running of Agile two-week sprints, acting as Scrum Master and ensuring sprint goals are clearly defined and achieved. With a focus on team happiness and efficiency, you’ll monitor performance and actively address any challenges, such as the ongoing transition of the PicoScope codebase from a long-established team to the Manchester office.
This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring strategic thinking and the ability to collaborate effectively with both local and remote colleagues. While there are currently no open positions, you will be expected to recruit and onboard new team members as required. With a commitment to continuous improvement, you’ll help identify opportunities to streamline processes and optimize performance.
What we are looking for
We’re seeking a proven leader with experience managing software development teams and a strong background in desktop application development. You should have expertise in .NET C# and familiarity with tools like Visual Studio, Git, and Azure DevOps pipelines. Knowledge of engineering, electronics, or scientific disciplines is a strong advantage, as is prior experience with oscilloscope or test equipment software.
A successful candidate will have a collaborative approach, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences. Agile leadership is central to this role, so you’ll need experience with Scrum or other Agile frameworks, ideally with hands-on Scrum Master responsibilities.
This role is not only about technical and managerial expertise; we’re also looking for someone who shares our values. At Pico Technology, we treat customers as friends, care for the environment and local communities, and are committed to work-life balance.
