The Role
Process safety is an essential component of safe and reliable operations and as such the Technical Safety / Process Safety lead will set, define, and deliver the strategy to meet business and industry requirements. The candidate would provide technical safety and process safety expertise for the improvement of process safety, plant integrity, reliability, and statutory & regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate well and influence at all levels and have a good degree of emotional intelligence.
Role, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities
1. Develop and agree the setting of the technical safety and process safety strategy.
2. Be the process owner and champion across the business.
3. Responsible for the process safety scorecard, measurement, metrics, and continual improvement.
4. Provide expertise in relation to hazards and risks being identified when making modifications to the plant and equipment – function as a subject matter expert (SME) and champion for Management of Change.
5. Responsible for site COMAH compliance.
6. Root Cause Analysis facilitator and SME for technical safety aspects.
7. Responsible for managing and/or facilitating relevant and technical safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, OBRA.
8. Function as SME for technical safety incident investigations.
9. Educate, train, and develop others in the concepts of process safety and to function as a technical point of contact for colleagues within the business.
What a Great Candidate Looks Like
Ideally educated to degree level in an engineering or technical subject or demonstrable industry experience. Chemical background would be beneficial. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate well and influence at all levels, be a good team player and have a good degree of emotional intelligence.
Requires experience in the power or related industry and detailed knowledge of High Hazard/COMAH sites and associated technical hazards and risks. Requires Health, Safety, Environment, Engineering, technical safety, and Process Safety knowledge, skills, and experience. Able to work in a cross-functional team with other disciplines. Experience of managing small budgets for OPEX and CAPEX and collaborating effectively with technical consultants.
