Who You Are The ideal candidate will be someone with relevant experience in a similar operational environment. You should have a willingness to work as part of an effective team and possess a good understanding of health and safety issues, along with adherence to the authority’s policies and procedures. The ability to self-motivate and work without close supervision is necessary, and you should have good communication skills and a commitment to providing high-quality service to Monmouthshire residents and businesses. You are flexible, with an ability to work outside core hours to meet service needs, and have a willingness to undertake any relevant training. A clean and current driving licence is desirable but not essential. Welsh language skills are also desirable, and you may be required to learn or improve these skills through council-funded training. What the Job Involves Your primary responsibility is to collect waste from households and businesses as outlined by the Council’s recycling and waste strategy. This includes the collection of various waste types such as food waste, garden waste, residual waste, hygiene waste, dry recycling, and trade waste. You will provide a high-quality service to the public, ensuring that all collections are made on schedule, that the area is left clean and safe post-collection, and that receptacles are returned neatly to their collection points. Monitoring contamination in recycling collections and following subsequent procedures is also part of your duties. This role requires you to work constructively and effectively as part of a team, comply with safe working practices and health and safety policies, and undertake any necessary training for job duties. You will report any incidents or concerns to your Area or Deputy Supervisor immediately, ensuring that all relevant paperwork is completed accurately and timely. You may act as a Relief HGV Driver/Team Leader if needed and should be prepared to work at other depots if required. Additional duties could include emptying litter bins, litter picking, sweeping town centres, and safe removal of sharps. You will work within the Council's flexibility framework, being required to work on bank holidays, excluding December 25 and 26 and January 1. Weekend and evening work may also be needed, and you will be part of a rota for emergency responses. The role includes progressive opportunities, full training, and support, and you will benefit from holiday allowances and Council benefit packages.
