Rharian Fields Specialist Eating Disorder Unit offers a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive provision to individuals experiencing complex eating disorders. Specialist treatment plans are designed to meet individual needs based on clinical expertise and good practice determined by NICE and MEED Guidelines.
We comprise of 6 commissioned beds and 2 non-commissioned beds, providing services for individuals from 17 years old upwards, catering for both male and female service users. We accept clients detained under the Mental Health Act and those requiring nasogastric feeding.
We are looking for a kind, caring and compassionate qualified nurse, who is highly motivated and dedicated to working with service users with complex eating disorders. Experience of working with or understanding eating disordered clients is preferential but not essential as training will be given. The successful applicant must be able to work to strict boundaries and adhere to comprehensive care plans.
Main duties of the job
You must be an excellent team player but also have the ability to work autonomously with our service users under the supervision of senior staff members. You must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills that allow you to build and maintain professional working relationships with service users and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Your role will require you at times to take on the role of shift leader ensuring that the day-to-day structure and running of the unit is adhered to and high standards are maintained. You will be required to facilitate therapeutic groups and 1-1 work with service users. You will also be required to develop your clinical skills including routine nursing observations, ECG's, nasogastric feeding regimes, re-feeding syndrome and related issues and accurately recording results in the service users records. You will be required to work closely with our unit doctors to ensure that any physical health abnormalities are addressed in a timely manner.

Job responsibilities
* To support documentation, monitoring and review of a range of specialist therapeutic interventions for service users (to include outpatients and home treatment as needed).
* To take a lead role in the care of in-patients; coordinating their care and liaising with other agencies involved with the support of senior colleagues.
* To assist in maintaining the safe administration and storage of medication in accordance with Navigo policies and procedures. You will need to demonstrate the proficiency for medication administration as set out in the NMC standards of proficiency and Navigo medicines management policy.
To maintain patient records accurately and promptly.
To give and receive nursing handovers (verbal and written).
* To take an active role in supporting and educating junior staff to provide evidence-based interventions for those suffering with an eating disorder.
To provide supervision of junior colleagues, seeking support from senior colleagues as required and in line with Navigo supervision policy.
* Assisting with providing a stimulating working and learning environment for any students on practice placement and to supervise and report on their clinical practice skills where appropriate to do so (e.g. nurse associate placement, student nurse).
* Assisting the clinical lead/band 6 nurses in the completion of specialist comprehensive eating disorder assessments for individuals referred to this service. This will include gathering and documenting detailed information both historical and current in relation to physical, psychological and social needs and past and current dietary intake.
* To provide assessment and treatment with support of senior colleagues to individuals requiring specialist eating disorder services. This will involve using evidence-based and service user centred practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions.
* To support senior colleagues to formulate professional opinion and recommendations following assessment; to include producing comprehensive care plans.
To deliver holistic evidence-based care to service users and their families with eating disorders using evidence-based interventions and assessment tools, seeking advice/assistance from senior colleagues as required.
* To deliver evidence-based daily therapeutic groups and daily one-to-one sessions, ensuring that these are planned collaboratively with the service users and the wider MDT.
* To complete comprehensive assessment for risks associated with the individuals health and circumstances, using recognised assessment tools including DICES (DICES risk management training must be in date). To complete appropriate risk management plans to minimise any risks to the service user and/or others and seek support if required and share as appropriate.
* To provide nutritional advice and interventions to service users and their families in collaboration with the dietician and the wider team.
* To be responsible for the accurate measuring and recording of various aspects of physical health as per the Rharian Fields Operational Policy and as indicated within the care plan template.
* To liaise with the multi-disciplinary team and to provide shared care with care coordinators, general practitioners and any other relevant parties involved, as per NICE guidelines and local policy.
* Ensuring that any handling of service user monies or possessions is done in accordance with local policy.
* To monitor, evaluate, and modify individual and/or group interventions in order to ensure effectiveness and to improve service user therapeutic outcomes. This requires observational skills attention to detail and the ability to seek support/advice from senior colleagues as required.
* To assess the impact of physical and mental ill health related to having an eating disorder. Advise service users, their family members and professional colleagues on appropriate lifestyle changes and physical adaptations to an individuals physical and social environments which will promote enablement and independence.
* To participate in CPA reviews involving service users, their families and other professionals and agencies.
* To identify when a carers assessment is required and to ensure referral onto appropriate agencies and support networks.
To be named worker to in-patients and day-patients, co-ordinating their packages of care and liaising with other agencies.
To support the delivery of carer and family groups within the unit.
Act as link worker to other agencies e.g. CAMHS, schools and colleges.
To report any incidents (including accidents, complaints and compliments) using the appropriate reporting channel.
To keep up to date with mandatory & statutory training and evidence-based interventions. To be responsible for identifying your own learning and development needs with support from your clinical supervisor and line manager.
