A fantastic special needs school we support in Okehampton is seeking a teaching assistant to support students across their site. They support students across key stages 1 - 4 so you must be flexible and adaptable as you may be moved across the classes, depending on the need.
About the role:
The students you will be supporting all have needs associated with social, emotional and mental health challenges. Most of the students also have other associated additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, attachment issues and speech and language difficulties. Given that the students have SEMH difficulties and may display challenging behaviour, strong behaviour management skills, patience and resilience are crucial for this role.
The role of a teaching assistant involves providing general classroom support and taking small group interventions. You may be working on a 1-1 basis with students too. You will work in close partnership with the teacher, supporting with lesson planning, resource gathering and activity set up.
Safeguarding is the top priority and it is essential that you ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, promoting a safe and enjoyable learning environment. In summary, the role of a teaching assistant is to ensure all students are safe, happy and able to access the learning, allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience: Previous experience working with children in the UK, whether in early years, primary or secondary education
* SEN knowledge: A strong understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support young people
* Personal qualities: Resilient, adaptable, hardworking and possess a good sense of humour.
