Summary A brilliant opportunity to lead the next phase of the reimagination of Castlefield Viaduct into an iconic sky park destination, green infrastructure corridor and active travel route. For several years, local people and organisations in the community have been passionate about finding a future for Castlefield viaduct which has lay derelict since 1969. Working with partners the National Trust opened the viaduct to the public as a temporary park in the summer of 2022. This initial ‘Phase One’ has been really successful with over 180,000 visitors so far. Through evaluation and consultation, the local community, stakeholders and visitors have told us they want the park to remain but also embrace the full opportunity creating a 1km sky park to connect to Trafford and Salford. More information about the park and project is here: https://castlefield-viaduct As the Project Manager for Phase Two, you'll be responsible for taking forward the next bigger, bolder phase of works through contractor procurement, construction and hand-over. Your contractual location will be our Manchester Hub and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview. This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months. What you'll be doing You'll be line managed by the Urban Lead for Manchester and report into the Castlefield Viaduct project board. You'll lead on all elements of Phase Two of the project, leading on procurement of contractors, overseeing construction and planning for hand-over. You’ll work with a highly engaged project board and project team, supported by an internal consultancy, external consultants and specialist network within the National Trust. You'll lead on managing the required statutory and planning consents needed for the project to progress through to construction. You'll be required to obtain external professional consultancy services to support development of the project through competitive tender processes and consultant frameworks. A key aspect of this project is engaging and building relationships with stakeholders and you must be really comfortable working in a matrix environment deploying your considerable influencing and negotiating skills. You’ll be working closely with a range of funders, partners and the local community to consult and engage closely as the project moves from development to delivery, as well as putting an evaluation plan in place. You’ll also oversee workstreams to ensure that stakeholder, communications and operational plans are developed and deployed. You will also advocate for the 1km vision scheme, developing stakeholder relationships and leading key packages of work to keep momentum and secure commitment for the future phase. Castlefield Viaduct is a key part of the wider Greater Manchester Urban Plan and included within the new National Trust strategy. You'll be part of the team who are developing projects and initiatives in partnership across the city-region to end unequal access to nature, beauty and history. You'll also be a member of our project and programme management community in the National Trust, and we are looking for an active and enthusiastic contributor in this space.
