DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under direction of the Public Works Director and/or Assistant Director, duties will include supervisory work assisting in operational activities and in the performance of assigned field personnel in Equipment Operations of Public Works (i.e. dump truck, tractor, bushhog, backhoe, and front-end-loaders). Assist with other services or as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervises, coordinates, and performs actual work in the field of activities essential to equipment operation for the City; operates light to medium equipment in performing various construction and maintenance responsibilities. Assists with preparing work schedules. Assigns and directs the activities of crews. Prepares reports; maintains records and personnel timeclock activity. Inspects work in progress. Assists with ordering materials and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of methods & principles of operating medium and heavy construction equipment, and other related work performed by the Public Works Department.
* Knowledge and ability to prepare work schedules.
* Ability to lead subordinates effectively.
* Skills in the preventative maintenance of medium and heavy equipment.
* Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and operations of equipment.
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* Ability to prepare accurate reports.
* Ability to communicate to subordinates, Director/Assistant Director, and the public, both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in Public Works Department with construction and maintenance.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record. MUST POSSESS A VALID CLASS "B" COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE (CDL).
PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL AND TESTING:
After an offer of employment has been made, the successful candidate must submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment. In addition, the candidate must also submit to a physical examination that is designed around the performance criteria of this position.

Completed application forms are to be returned to the Administration Office for handling. Applications of qualified applicants will be submitted to the hiring department for review and consideration for interview. The City schedules interviews by email or telephone during normal business hours.
