Our client now has a Principal Designer job available. If you're a Building Control professional or Architect with a knack for Health and Safety, this could be the perfect fit. You'll work on high-end residential and heritage projects, with plenty of opportunities to grow your role with this AJ100 architectural firm.
With their projects being featured in several industry and lifestyle publications regularly, the practice's portfolio of projects ranges from beautiful historic buildings and private homes to commercial properties and interiors in the UK and internationally.
Due to continued success, they now have a role for a Principal Designer to join the team.
Role & Responsibilities
* Lead in planning, managing, and monitoring design work
* Advise architectural teams to ensure compliance with Building Regulations
* Develop the company's compliance and safety services
* Manage and develop Principal Designer duties under the Building Safety Act
* Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and deliver client-focused services
* Collaborate with teams to execute strategic initiatives and meet key performance indicators
* Prepare reports and provide insights to senior leadership
* Monitor design phases for compliance and assist in assessing Duty Holders' competence
* Provide creative solutions to design challenges and promote sustainability practices
* Maintain strong client relationships and support them with Duty Holder responsibilities
* Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring professional communication
* Liaise with external teams, attend project meetings and keep project managers informed
* Coordinate training on building regulations and mentor staff
* Lead by example, managing time effectively and ensuring work meets required standards
* Support financial management, project organisation, and health and safety documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in the construction industry, ideally in a compliance or health and safety role
* Excellent knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022
* In-depth understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
* Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
* Exceptional communication and presentation skills
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and foster strong relationships with design directors, senior leadership, and architectural teams
* Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
* Degree in Architecture, Building Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar field
* Membership in RICS, CABE, RIBA, CIAT, BSCF, or CIOB.
