The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a) Undertake new patient health checks b) Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes c) Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately d) Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly e) Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics f) Carry out BMI checks as directed g) Act as a chaperone as required h) When trained, undertake venepuncture i) When trained, administer flu vaccinations j) Assist with Chronic Disease Management: Diabetes, COPD, Asthma etc k) Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation l) Provide support during minor operations as required m) Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session n) Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance o) Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy p) Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate q) NHS Health Checks r) Mental Health Physical Health Checks s) Learning Disability Physical Health Checks t) Stocking consulting rooms u) Record fridge temperatures and escalate any cold chain breech to the Lead Practice Nurse or Practice Manager v) Ordering stock supplies w) Checking Emergency drug box and equipment for expired items and ordering replacements Extended Access Clinic on Saturday mornings (less than 1 per month)
