Secondary PRU
Youth Worker
Location: Chorlton
Prospero Teaching is working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Chorlton that deals with students with additional needs and mental health issues.
This is an outreach role, primarily focused on bringing education to the hardest-to-reach students in the community.
The pupils are aged 11-16 years old (KS3/4 secondary) and have EHCP plans and additional needs. They have often experienced some form of trauma, neglect, or a chaotic home life.
Your role will involve building connections with the young people and acting as a mentor and role model.
You must have a strong teaching assistant or tutoring background with students from PRUs or SEMH schools. A valid driving license and access to your own car are required for this role.
Due to the barriers the pupils face in the classroom, the role will entail forging strong relationships with them. You will utilize various mentoring skills (similar to those used in sports, drama, and counseling) to help individuals engage with school.
You will support pupils both in and out of the classroom on a more vocational basis. This position is open to all experienced candidates with a strong background in mentoring children and young adults. Depending on performance, the school may consider extending the contract or offering a permanent position.
