Centre Supervisor (University Sector - Sport)

We are looking for enthusiastic, positive and reliable individuals who will be responsible to the Sport & Fitness Manager and will assist the management and operation of a University Sports facility.
Post 1 - full time, fixed term until 12 January 2027, 35 hours per week
Post 2 - part time, open-ended, 28 hours per week
Face to face Interviews will take place on Campus Thursday, 30 January 2025.
Precise hours to be determined by the Line Manager, to ensure the needs of the service are met, based on 5 out of 7 days including evenings and weekends to meet the operational needs of the business.
Starting Salary: £24,600 per annum (Grade 3), with annual increment points up to £25,433 per annum for full time post, pro rata for part time post.
Package includes 32 days holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays pro rata for hours worked, as well as access to a range of staff discounts and training.
This role is based on campus.

Job Description
Main Duties
* To assist the Manager in the day-to-day running of the facility to include the opening, closing and the security of the facility; the supervision, scheduling and motivation of staff; handling customer enquiries; delivering and monitoring of facility bookings; set up and storage of equipment; following financial procedures; service promotion; service development and sport and fitness instruction.
* To assist the Manager with the performance management, recruitment, training and development of the team.
* To ensure that users and visitors participate safely at all times and adhere to the service rules and regulations in place.
* To liaise with users to provide a supporting role to their activities and their use of facilities in accordance with industry trends, guidance and best practice.
* To liaise with other University staff and University contractors with regards to projects, events and any other issues.
* To ensure that service procedures and health & safety standards are adhered to, undertaking regular walkarounds, and keeping regular checks on equipment and facilities to ensure their maintenance and functionality is maintained.
* To monitor the cleaning contract and ensure that the high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.
* To organise and deliver sport related projects and activities providing qualified instruction where practicable and appropriate.
* To assist the Manager with service-related administrative duties including membership record maintenance, facility usage records, user evaluations and surveys.
* To assist the Manager with service-related marketing and promotion activities, to include the distribution of promotional materials, social media interaction, website maintenance and event management.
* To operate and supervise the use of the service’s computerised leisure management system.
* To deal with a range of enquiries from internal and external customers in a professional manner, establishing their requirements and adapting the standard responses accordingly.
* To collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures.
* To establish working relationships with key contacts to help improve service levels.
* To contribute to the success of the team, leading others through example, and supervising the team.
* To attend and actively participate in all basic training as identified in the Division’s Training Matrix and industry related training relevant to the role and skill development.
* To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, EC directives and the University’s Safety, Health and Environment Policies and procedures and to cooperate with the University on any legal duties placed on it as the employer. As a member of staff with managerial/supervisory responsibilities you will also be responsible for ensuring that University policy and procedures and legal duties are applied within your areas and that appropriate risk assessments are undertaken, necessary actions are implemented and staff within your area are fully conversant and trained in respect of their Health and Safety obligations.

* Knowledge / ability to supervise and motivate a team.
* Proven ability to lead and instruct group activities.
* Proven experience of working within a customer focused, sport, exercise, or leisure environment with an ability to deal with escalated requests for information or service, resolving customer issues where appropriate.
* Proven experience of dealing with financial issues and following financial procedures.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
* Proven experience of complying with Health & Safety practices.
* Qualified to instruct sport or fitness related activities.
* A working knowledge of Gladstone MRM, or a similar computerised leisure management system.
* Experience of co-ordinating sports projects, competitions, programmes or events.
* Experience of supervising a team.
* First Aid at Work Certificate or the willingness and ability to attain one when appointed.
* Ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.

CAMPUS SERVICES INFORMATION
Campus Services provides a range of professional support services to students, staff and visitors at Cardiff University.
Residences manages accommodation places for approximately 5,500 students, both catered and self-catered.
In terms of catering, there are cafés and restaurants conveniently located across university campuses, in addition to a delivered hospitality service.
Cardiff University Sport exists to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport service which meets the needs of a broad range of users.
The Nursery offers facilities for children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years and is divided into sections appropriate to the ages and development of the children.
Both residential and catering facilities are utilised for conferences and functions during the University’s vacation periods. A purpose built and designed conference centre and conference facility is also available throughout the year.
The Campus Services operation is supported by its own central administration functions covering the allocation of residences, human resource and quality, purchasing, facilities, finance, and general administration.
