This role requires an experienced leader with a proven track record in influencing and shaping operational delivery. You should understand how a well-run business is planned, performance managed and financed. An analytical mindset and the ability to work at both a strategic and tactical level to influence and deliver effective change is essential.
As an integral member of the Operations Leadership Team (OLT), supporting the Executive Director and senior leaders to deliver organisational transformation across Operations, you will help OLT understand how we are performing in terms of finances and delivery of outcomes, supporting evidence-led decisions on priority risks and assuring delivery.
You will help to transform and modernise our business enabling us to run more efficiently and effectively shaping the business and seeking continuous improvement. Your success in this role will only be achieved by working with and through others, so you will be a skilled influencer with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the structural design of the Operations’ Directorate and will drive commonality and consistency where it is needed. You will work with our Operations’ Directors, who carry cross cutting delivery Portfolios, to understand their transformation ambitions, bringing these together in a prioritised, cohesive and deliverable programme of change.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
You will directly lead a small team of people to support you in this work. You will report to the Director of Operations (South and South-West), who leads Operations’ relationship with the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate (STA). You will also be a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, supporting the Executive Director of Operations and providing strategic leadership and direction to the 9,000+ people across the Operations Directorate.
Experience/skills Required
You will:
* Be a strategic thinker focused on efficiency, innovation, and quality.
* Be experienced in planning, performance managing and assuring a complex operational business, including direct experience of operating at Executive level.
* Be skilled in programme management and able to coordinate how we meet challenges and opportunities, making the best choices for people, businesses, and the environment.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of successful organisational delivery including:
* Delivering through others, bringing people together towards a shared goal.
* Developing and embedding a culture of effective change management and adapting to changing needs.
* Leading, planning, and monitoring delivery to support the delivery of strategic direction.
* Driving business performance by reviewing, assuring and making intelligence-led decisions on performance metrics, ensuring delivery while adapting to in-year changes and unplanned pressures.

You can be based at any of our offices in England, but regular travel will be required with some overnight stays – mainly in the London and Birmingham areas.
