Full job description
To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures and the practice area, including Fire and Health & Safety Policies.
1. Work in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Practice.
2. Support your GPs, ensuring appropriate tasks are delivered to your GP and subsequently dealt with.
3. Call patients at the GP request, delivering information/messages in a professional and caring manner.
4. Work collaboratively with other administrative and clinical staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
5. Provide support to colleagues during busy periods or absences.
6. Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition.
7. Answer incoming phone calls, dealing with the callers' requests appropriately.
8. Make appointments for patients attending or calling by telephone, using the computer system, and in accordance with the Practice's appointment protocols.
9. Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members, and external agencies.
10. Input data into the patients' healthcare records as necessary.
11. Deal with queries regarding services offered by the practice.
12. Arrange appointments for medicals and other non-routine appointments.
13. Take messages and record them.
14. Direct requests for information, e.g., SAR, insurance and solicitors' letters, and DVLA forms, to the relevant department.
15. Process Hospital Letters and scan letters and test results onto computerized medical records.
16. Use the computer to enter patient information.
17. Process eConsults to the appropriate healthcare professional or administrator.
18. Ensure patient signatures and ID on relevant forms.
19. Register temporary residents and those requiring immediately necessary treatment.
20. Have an understanding of the duty GP role and operate within the surgery protocol when necessary.
21. Liaise with other members of the Primary Health Care Team for patients attending.
22. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
23. Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested.
24. As part of the administration team, demonstrate flexibility and may be asked to work in other areas.
25. Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance or training objective has been set, progress will be revised regularly so that new objectives can be agreed.
26. Contribute to public health campaigns, e.g., flu clinics through advice or direct care.
