Mott MacDonald’s landscape architecture and arboriculture team has an exciting opportunity for a landscape apprentice to join the landscape team in Cambridge. The landscape team works on a wide range of projects involving design and landscape assessment across the UK, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The ideal candidate will have a high level of personal motivation, a passion for the environment and an aptitude for learning digital applications including graphics and design packages. The role will provide excellent opportunities to develop the skills required to be a landscape technician and will include both office and site-based work. The candidate will work as part of a well-established landscape team and alongside other environment professionals including ecologists and heritage consultants.
The candidate’s typical daily responsibilities will include:
• Undertaking site surveys, as part of new design projects and in support of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments
• Capturing photography in accordance with industry guidelines and standards
• Preparing designs, drawings and visualisations using graphic’s packages such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Adobe Suite
• Processing landscape data including photography and written information using applications such as Excel, Word and InDesign packages
The candidate’s long-term responsibilities will include:
Providing support to members of the landscape team in the co-ordination of landscape data, preparation of project deliverables including designs, specifications, reports, visualisations and presentation material.

* Undertake site surveys and inspections - Undertake site surveys and inspections and record findings in an appropriate format. Take account of natural processes, habitats and biodiversity and the topographical and physical environment including nearby structures, water courses, services.
* Prepare basic landscape designs - Assist with the preparation of landscape designs accounting for the physical and social context. Consider the potential to improve health and wellbeing, sensory design and ensure schemes are accessible and inclusive for all. Apply the principles of sustainability.
* Convey ideas - Contribute to conveying ideas to clients, stakeholders, volunteers and the public typically using reports, photography, visualisation, presentations and graphics software.
* Use technology - Use technology typically including computer-aided design, Building Information Modelling, Geographic Information Systems and Excel.
* Contribute to the preparation of drawings and specifications for landscape schemes.
* Research - Undertake desk and site based landscape research.
* Legal and regulatory compliance - Comply with relevant landscape, parks, planning, building and environmental related legislation, requirements, policies and procedures. Follow health and safety procedures at work and on site
* Contract process - Contribute to the implementation or aftercare of landscape projects and comply with or ensure compliance with contract terms
* Personal effectiveness - Communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Manage work and time. Work independently and as part of a team. Interact with other built environment professionals.

Your training plan
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.
