3 nights respite per month and wrap around hours for 2 x carers
The employer C is an 18 year old male. He has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties and is non-verbal. He is a very cheerful young man who enjoys charity shopping, cycling, walking, swimming, getting out in the countryside and to cafes. C requires 2 to 1 support while out and about as he has absconded before. He also has a history of self-harm pulling out his own adult teeth. However, he has not done this since an increase in medication a year ago.
He needs support with getting his food ready, supervision around cleanliness, getting ready for bed and getting dressed. He enjoys a healthy diet.
While at home he likes to watch DVD’s and use YouTube on his computer. He also enjoys, dancing, crafts and jigsaws. Although he is non-verbal, he does have a few words and simple signs, and has a reasonable understanding of instructions. He is generally cooperative. C has a great team of day support carers and he is a really well-liked young man, very smiley and affectionate.
We are primarily looking for overnight respite care for him. Potential carers would need a spare bedroom that he can sleep in. The work would best suit a couple with no children at home. On the whole we find looking after C very rewarding.
