Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at UHNM to join the dynamic team of Respiratory Consultants working at our Royal Stoke and County sites. UHNM is a regional centre for interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis and non-invasive ventilation, including complex home ventilation and weaning services, and is part of two MNDA approved care centres.
The successful candidates would have a specialist interest in Sleep & Vent and complement the expertise of the 21 Respiratory Consultants, 8 SpRs, 2 NIHR recognised academic fellow posts, and 25 Clinical Nurse Specialists working across the Respiratory Medicine Department. The department provides both an inpatient, outpatient and day case Sleep & Ventilation Service, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Pleural Procedures and General Respiratory services across both our sites.
Main duties of the job
The Respiratory Department is the regional centre for interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis and non-invasive ventilation, including complex home ventilation and weaning services and part of two MNDA approved care centres. There is an established lung cancer screening programme. The Asthma service has recently been approved to provide biological treatment for severe disease. The Respiratory Department consists of 4 Respiratory Wards with 119 inpatient beds, including a 26 bedded Acute Lung Unit with 16 NIV beds, 2 Respiratory Physiology Departments over 2 sites offering a range of lung function tests. A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Respiratory and General Medicine is required.
The successful candidate will complement the expertise of the 21 Respiratory Consultants, 10 SpRs and 31 Clinical Nurse Specialists, working across the sub-specialities. The department provides both an inpatient, outpatient and day case Sleep & Ventilation Service,
Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Pleural Procedures and General Respiratory services across both our sites.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. MBBS or equivalent
2. CCT in Respiratory Medicine or within 6 months of receipt of CCT on interview date
3. Full GMC registration
4. MRCP or equivalent

5. A higher degree ( MD or PhD)
Clinical Experience and Training

6. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) c. European Community Rights
7. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty.
8. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients.
