Finance Director (Corporate and Commercial)
We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated Finance Director (Corporate and Commercial) to provide visionary leadership and help shape the long-term financial direction of our organisation. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in developing and implementing the Council's medium-term financial strategy, ensuring that budgets align with corporate objectives and that resources are directed to deliver maximum impact for local communities. You will work closely with elected Members, executive directors, and service leads to formulate evidence-based policies, respond to the evolving demands of public sector finance, and identify future opportunities for income generation.
As the driving force behind our strategic planning, you will oversee major corporate initiatives, lead sophisticated financial modelling and benchmarking exercises, and offer authoritative guidance on high-profile projects and commercial partnerships. You will be responsible for advising on risk management strategies that safeguard public funds while allowing for innovation and investment in essential services. By championing a culture of continuous improvement, you will ensure that your teams are equipped with the skills, tools, and processes needed to provide accurate financial analysis, deliver timely and compliant reports, and adapt quickly to new challenges. Alongside these duties, you will serve as a role model for our values and behaviours, fostering a collaborative approach that empowers colleagues at all levels to contribute to organisational success.
Your portfolio will include leading and inspiring a multi-disciplinary finance team, where you will set clear expectations, establish robust performance metrics, and encourage the development of emerging talent. Your proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and to work across departmental boundaries will be vital in promoting joined-up decision-making and maintaining the highest standards of transparency. We are keen to hear from candidates with significant experience in strategic finance and commercial negotiations, who can bring a balance of analytical acumen, creative thinking, and a genuine commitment to public service. If you are ready to shape a progressive financial agenda for a thriving local authority, this is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact on how we deliver value for our residents.
