Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Contribute fully to the development and implementation of strategies and policies for developing and modernising nursing clinical practice and services to ensure high quality, safe health care services for our patients and for the delivery of statutory and corporate responsibilities aligned to this. Ensure contribution to the workforce plans; ensure the development of new roles that meet the needs of the organisation and ensure a focus on the recruitment and retention priorities for nursing staff. Provide professional leadership and direction to all nurses and non-medical professionals, promoting a culture which values continual professional development that strives for excellence in all aspects of equitable and inclusive high quality care delivery. Provide leadership, oversight, and support to the implementation of the quality improvement priorities and quality measurements as described in the quality accounts. Ensure the delivery of the Quality Accounts within the prescribed timeframes. Work in collaboration with Chief Operating Officer to ensure effective, safe, and high quality of all IHG services that meet the needs of the day-to-day organisational requirements and any new business development or services in line with the business plans. Professional Leadership: Provide the Board of Directors, the Senior Management team and Clinical Divisions with professional support and direction in all aspects relating to nursing and quality. Provide professional clinical leadership to nursing staff that supports innovation and quality improvement of care and services. Ensure the highest standards of professional care that demonstrates full compliance with regulatory professional requirements. Risk and Quality: Responsibility for developing the quality and risk management strategies through a process of clinical and managerial engagement. The strategies will ensure that a learning organisation is maintained and that there is a focus on near miss reporting and learning and organisational sharing of learning from incidents. In partnership with the Medical Director, ensure that Independent Health Groups statutory obligations in clinical services are met and ensure safe and proper standards of clinical practice. Encourage, support, and develop evidence-based practice. Promote and develop innovative and creative approaches to clinical quality and quality performance, establishing key performance indicators for benchmarking and ensure scope for continuous improvement. As Organisation lead for the Quality & Standards ensure the functional requirements for patient safety, patient experience, clinical effectiveness, complaints, litigation, risk management, safeguarding vulnerable people and clinical audit and quality improvement are met. You will ensure the proper systems and processes are in place thereby providing assurance to the Board of Directors. Provide corporate leadership on the compliance with the Care Quality Commission key lines of enquiry and ensure a system of assurance for providing evidence of compliance. Strategy Development and Business Planning As a director and member of the senior management team, you will share full corporate responsibility for the overall strategic development and the day to day running of the organisation. Contribute to the development of the strategy and implementation of the long-term plan. As a member of the senior management team, take an active role in developing performance improvement and service innovation initiatives that respond to patient and commissioner needs. Share corporate responsibility for the execution, monitoring and achievement of quality, financial and performance standards. Ensure the reporting of quality measures to the Board demonstrating continuous improvement and achievement of quality standards. Leadership and Workforce Planning: Advise the Board on issues of skill mix, deployment, and utilisation of the nursing workforce consistent with NMC standards and those of other appropriate professional bodies. In partnership with the Head of Human Resources ensure that workforce planning, retention and recruitment of nursing and non-medical professionals is of a standard that delivers high quality care, whilst delivering the workforce plans. Foster compassionate leadership and an inclusive and respectful culture where colleagues value and seek diverse perspectives and actively build healthy and effective teams. Drive conversations around creating cultures where nursing staff can thrive and ensure that barriers to this are addressed. Ensure the link between psychologically safe teams, staff engagement and retention, and the delivery of safe, high quality patient care is recognised. Ensure that professional, managerial and leadership development of nursing is maintained and reviewed annually. Ensure support, through objective setting, appraisal, and personal development, to all direct reports. Manage the budget and ensure value for money.
