Make your mark as Offshore Geophysical Engineer at Gardline!
The Geophysical Engineer is responsible for the safe operation and acquisition of geophysical survey equipment and data.
This is a seagoing role, with an expectation of completing around 180-200 days offshore per year. Whilst we provide ongoing training and development, previous experience in a similar environment would be advantageous. The start date for this role is January 2025. A comprehensive induction training programme will take place in our Great Yarmouth offices based in the United Kingdom.
Job Description
Your responsibilities include:
* Being proficient in the use, maintenance, mobilisation and configuration of all Gardline Geophysical and Seismic equipment.
* Ensure that the engineering work is performed at the highest standards in accordance with the company’s Quality Assurance and HSE procedures.
* Operate a variety of both electrical and hydraulic deployment systems including winches, cranes, jibs etc.
* Work safely on deck deploying and recovering overboard equipment and systems.
* Termination and fabrication of specialist cables including underwater terminations and data/network cables.
* Perform basic electrical testing e.g. utilising digital multi-meters, insulation testers, oscilloscopes, computer based diagnostic tooling, data testers, spectrum analysers.
* Ensure that all Geophysical and Seismic Engineering equipment is tested, calibrated, sufficient spares stocked, manuals are available.
* Monitor and quality control data records in an accurate and timely manner.
* Ensure that the Geophysical and Seismic data is acquired in compliance with good survey practice and logs are completed in accordance with company policy.
* Under the direction of the onshore technical support team or offshore project manager develop and operate appropriate engineering and administrative processes in order to effectively support the work of the Geophysical Department.
* Assist and provide technical assistance to Environmental and Geotechnical operations.
Your qualities
You can make your mark as an Offshore Geophysical Engineer if you have:
* Experience in relevant engineering disciplines would be considered. e.g. Electronic, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Electrical, Data communications, IT infrastructure.
* Broad knowledge of Geophysical and Seismic operations (desirable).
* Proven track record to be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Develop constructive and open relationships with a wide range of people.
* Team spirit and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
* Ability to problem solve using initiative and creativity.
* Dedicated work ethic.
* Fluent in spoken and written English, including technical.
* High level IT skills e.g. Microsoft Office.
* Ability to pass ENG-1 and STCW-95 (or recognised equivalent).
Qualifications
* Qualifications
in an engineering, electronics or mechanical field (HM Forces
qualifications
also recognised).
* Level 3 or higher
qualifications
in technical subjects (e.g. Maths, Electronics, Physics).
