Provide general administration assistance to the Practice team and demonstrate a professional and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Main duties of the job
Posterngate Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic, understanding, flexible, well-organised person to expand our friendly reception team. Experience with a health care provider is preferred, but not essential as training will be provided.

Job responsibilities
1. Ensure an efficient and friendly reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice.
2. Deal with all general enquiries efficiently and courteously and when necessary in private, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
3. Using your own judgement and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultations are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
4. Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
5. Book patient appointments ensuring they are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
6. Take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
7. Process tasks raised by Doctors.
8. Enter requests for home visits onto the computer system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor. Printing summary printouts for visits.
9. Viewing Internet for messages and dealing with them.
10. Printing blood forms.
11. Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
12. Accountable for the petty cash.
13. Reconciliation of card machine.
14. Enter/amend patient information onto the computer as required.
15. Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
16. Process samples received from patients following urine protocol.
17. Dealing with urgent results for the GPs.
18. Liaising with local hospitals etc. as required.
19. Assisting other members of the Primary Health Care Trust as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent (at least grade C) in Maths and English Language
* 5 or more GCSEs or equivalent (at least grade C) in a variety of subjects
Experience
* Experience of working in a face-to-face customer service role.
* Reception/administration experience working for a health care provider.
Qualities/Attributes
* Friendly and approachable with ability to deal with difficult people
* Able to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.
* Ability to use own judgement and resourcefulness
* Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities
* Basic IT skills
