Senior Process Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to bring expertise in process engineering to support our production facilities and lead the development and execution of capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, the Senior Process Engineer will oversee a variety of essential activities, including:
1. Design and Planning: Lead the design phase for capital projects, including options analysis, equipment specification, and detailed design work.
2. Documentation and Approvals: Develop, review, and approve key process engineering documentation, such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), mass and energy balances, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process descriptions, data sheets, and interlock/control philosophies.
3. Safety and Risk Management: Provide input on hazard assessments, relief and blowdown analyses, area classification, and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews.
4. Commissioning and Supervision: Oversee the commissioning of new equipment for effective operation, coordinating with commissioning teams and contractors as needed.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position will ensure that new projects integrate smoothly into existing safety, health, and engineering (SHE) systems, with a seamless handover to the plant Operations team. The Senior Process Engineer will lead optimization projects to enhance productivity, reduce operating costs, and improve throughput, yield, and energy efficiency. This role will also identify improvement opportunities and conduct feasibility studies to enhance various aspects of manufacturing operations.
Additionally, this role involves supporting engineering standards and systems, as well as mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership. In-depth knowledge of process engineering regulations is essential, as is practical experience with project management and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
Preferred candidates will have:
1. Experience leading major capital projects within COMAH-regulated facilities and strong process safety knowledge, including hazard assessments, functional safety, DSEAR, and pressure relief.
2. Demonstrated experience in commissioning new equipment or plants and delivering major improvement projects that yielded significant operational benefits.
3. A degree in chemical engineering (or related field) and chartered status is preferred, along with a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
