Job Introduction
Cardfactory are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced Inventory Accountant to join our growing team. As a key player in our wider finance team, you will support the Finance Manager with inventory reporting, stocktake planning, reconciliation, and valuation of approx. £50m+ of inventory.
You will ensure that external audit requirements are met for inventory reporting, and internal customers are provided with the right inventory information to support decision making.
Outside of reporting and audit cycles, project work and process improvements will be a key focus, leveraging the newly implemented SAP system.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate who holds professional qualifications and have strong post-qualified experience in a similar role.
Based at Junction 41 in Wakefield, with free parking and a flexible, hybrid way of working, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in our team. Colleagues are required to work in the office for a minimum of 2-3 days per week, with the expectation of additional attendance when needed.
Role Responsibility
1. Perform monthly inventory reconciliation to the General Ledger.
2. Coordinate interim and year-end DC stocktakes.
3. Ensure compliance with all external audit requirements.
4. Serve as the SAP super-user for Inventory, including identifying and resolving system issues, and managing GR/IR accounts.
5. Monitor Moving Average Prices (MAP) and investigate discrepancies outside of agreed tolerances.
6. Manage store stocktakes, including year-end, interim, seasonal, and ad hoc counts.
7. Review stock provision policy and its impact on the P&L.
8. Identify inventory balance sheet risks and opportunities.
9. Support the upskilling and development of Inventory Assistants.
10. Perform additional ad hoc tasks as required by the Finance Manager - Inventory and Head of Management Accounting.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Qualifications and Skills
11. Relevant Accountancy Qualification: Such as CIMA, ACCA, or ICAEW
12. Post-qualified experience in a large retail environment
13. Stakeholder Management: Ability to manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, each with different objectives and priorities.
14. Analytical and Excel Skills: Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in Excel, with a high level of attention to detail.
15. Independence and Teamwork: Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
16. Workload Management: Ability to manage workload efficiently and handle potentially conflicting priorities.
17. Proactive Attitude: Hands-on approach with a proactive, positive “can-do” attitude.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
18. Inventory Finance Experience: Previous experience in managing inventory finance.
19. Retail/FMCG Experience: Experience working in a large retail or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) organization.
20. SAP Experience: Familiarity with SAP software.
