The primary aim of the audiology service is to provide quality assured patient-centred care to all patients that use Kettering General Hospital Audiology services. The main roles and responsibilities of this post will include:
Operational Responsibilities
1. Ensure demonstrably high professional standards are maintained in all areas of clinical, scientific, technical, educational, and rehabilitative service provision.
2. Provide supervision, training, and advice to all junior staff and students within the department.
3. Maintain an in-depth understanding of all operational management systems for the provision of the clinical service.
4. Promote and support the professional and vocational development of staff within the Audiology Service.
5. Help the Deputy Head of Audiology maintain and develop audit and CPD resources for the department.
6. Investigate and respond to all patient complaints in compliance with Trust policy.
7. Keep well versed with the latest developments in Audiology to inform personal and departmental development.
8. Participate in the recruitment, selection, and interviewing process for new staff.
9. Monitor and manage sickness and well-being issues in the absence of the Deputy Head of Audiology.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Be professionally responsible for the provision of a clinical and technically safe adult audiology service.
2. Undertake regular clinical sessions to maintain a high clinical profile and professional competence.
3. Be responsible for the day-to-day clinical pathway management of the Adult Audiology service and its specialties.
4. Provide specialist advice to patients, professionals, and professional services on all matters pertaining to adult audiology.
5. Be responsible for clinical decisions regarding diagnostic tests.
6. Audit clinical effectiveness and maintain a programme of development.
7. Chair the adult and tinnitus specialist meetings.
Person Specification
Qualifications
1. Essential: BSc / BAAT in Audiology.
2. Essential: Membership of an appropriate professional body (RCCP/AHCS/HCPC).
3. Desirable: Membership of the British Academy of Audiology or other professional organisation.
Knowledge and Experience
1. Essential: Extensive current practical and theoretical knowledge and experience of clinical adult audiology and hearing aid technology.
2. Essential: Prior management experience in Audiology with knowledge of HR issues.
3. Desirable: Experience in specialised areas e.g. Tinnitus assessment and rehabilitation.
Skills and Capabilities
1. Essential: Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
2. Essential: Proven business planning skills.
3. Essential: Management and leadership skills.
4. Essential: IT Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Audiology PAS system.
