Job Introduction
Do you know social media inside out? Can you plan and deliver world-class content and help lead a team that connects with younger audiences? We're looking for three people to work as Social Media Output Producers in BBC Sport. They will lead and inspire a team of social media journalists and content creators to deliver world-leading content across BBC Sport's portfolio of social media accounts. They will also need to work closely with other teams and departments to connect ideas and people.
We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve - for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups. We would therefore encourage applications from individuals with skills or experience that can help contribute towards ensuring we maximise the diversity of our coverage and content.
Main Responsibilities
This role requires extensive knowledge of social media best practices – including video – and a strong understanding of how to best reach younger audiences on social media. Organisational skills and the capacity to multi-task are key, as is an ability to lead and inspire others. Management or oversight of other colleagues on a day-to-day basis is a key part of this role, with the successful candidate responsible for developing other members of the team.
As a Producer in the social media team the successful candidate will oversee the execution of our day-to-day output on social channels, leading the social media journalists and working alongside video teams to drive the highest standards of output across the BBC’s social accounts. The Output Producer – working to the Social Media Assistant Editor – will also be expected to plan our daily social content while working closely with TV editors and radio teams to ensure live events and broadcasts incorporate relevant social media.
The role works on a weekly 4x10hr shift pattern and will include some early mornings, late nights and weekends. Not every evening or weekend, of course, but you should be aware the role does often require “non-standard” hours. The role is based in Salford and will require a roughly 50-50 split of time spent in the office and working from home.
Are you the right candidate?
* Our successful candidates will have extensive experience creating high-quality digital content across social media and/or online and display exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under intense pressure.
* They should have experience planning social content and campaigns, managing/leading other team members and possess a strong desire to ensure output meets the highest editorial standards.
* They will also have good knowledge of a wide range of sports and be able to identify sports news stories that have a broad appeal to a global audience. An understanding of how to use social media to attract audiences to BBC programmes and produce content within BBC guidelines is absolutely key.
* Decision-making under pressure is a daily occurrence so a strong grasp of editorial policy and an intuitive feel for correct tone/decency is a must-have.
* Strong communication skills are desired as you’ll need to organise a team of journalists, get the most out of them and work with a variety of other producers across the BBC.
* Knowledge of and experience working on cricket is required for the 11 month FTC. If you are interested in applying for the role, please detail any experience you have in your application.
This is not an entry-level role. We're looking for candidates with significant experience within the area. Please review the criteria for the role before applying.
