An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join Rolls-Royce Submarines in Derby.
We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.
Mechanical engineers are one of the largest skill groups in Submarines, covering (but not limited to) the following parts of the business:
1. Nuclear primary components, including the reactor core.
2. Secondary propulsion components.
3. In-service support and maintenance.
4. Special purpose tools and equipment.
5. Future product.

What you will be doing:
You will be responsible for the creation of component/assembly/systems designs and associated through-life justification that meet their requirements and product attributes of life, cost, availability, and safety margins. Additionally, you will:
6. Create solutions and justifications that are robust against variation, taking account the full life cycle (concept, design, manufacture, operation, and disposal).
7. Integrate cross-discipline engineering concepts which include manufacturing engineering, simulation, materials, testing, and supply chain.
8. Document and verify information against sound mechanical engineering practices and references.
9. Present evidence at technical reviews in front of peers and expert panels.
10. Publish safety and technical reports which are subjected to customer and regulatory scrutiny.
Who we’re looking for:

11. Ideally, you will have experience in one of the above disciplines, but this does not need to be limited to Submarines.
12. It is preferable that you are Degree Qualified or Apprentice Trained in a relevant engineering discipline, however this is not essential as experience is equally beneficial. External Skills/Experience can be from industries such as Civil Nuclear, Marine, Petro-Chemical and Oil & Gas.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
