They provide the full range of professional services typically provided by an established and progressive accountancy firm, including audit and accounts, management consultancy, payroll and taxation. Role Summary The main duties for this position will be to supervise the workflow of apprentices in the department, aiding with onboarding and ongoing training, as well as supporting the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor in their role. You will be expected to stay up to date with new features within the core accounting software we use, which will aid you in working with the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor in providing internal training to staff where needed, and external training to clients on various accounting software and add-ons when required. You will also aid the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor with bespoke work on conversions and client transfers, and with the training for other members of the team on this type of work also. The ideal candidate will have experience and in-depth knowledge of various accounting software, including cloud-based solutions and additional accounting applications. They will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an interest in emerging technologies, and the ability to pass this knowledge on. Key tasks and responsibilities Responsible for providing a bookkeeping, VAT, and management accounts service, using both manual and computerised accounting systems. Undertake work on a portfolio of clients on behalf of various managers/partners. The volume of client work will depend on the size, complexity and nature of the clients and the volume of supervisory work undertaken. Take responsibility for the flow of accounts jobs at apprentice level to ensure accounts are provided on a timely basis and all deadlines are met in agreement with other managers. This would be in line with the department internal turnaround target of drafts completed within 4 weeks for statutory accounts and 2 weeks for Sole trader/rental accounts. Monitor workloads within the team to ensure that work is well managed and appropriately allocated, reporting to the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor on a regular basis on the status of work within the department and on issues that have arisen in respect of work overruns or jobs coming in late. Assist the Cloud Advisor, when required, with specific advisory projects, and provide supervision and guidance to less experienced team members to enable project completion. Provide supervision and task support to the wider team, sharing knowledge and providing guidance to less experienced members, on a day-to-day basis and as needed in the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor’s absence (escalating issues to the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor, as and when appropriate). Provide support and assist the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor on project work for clients, including system data conversions and system training for staff and clients. Work closely with and look for opportunities to assist the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor to identify opportunities to refine existing departmental procedures to improve efficiency and deliver a better-quality service. Work closely with the Cloud & Digital Solutions Advisor in marketing and developing the department to assist in generating new client business and general practice development. Attend networking events when required / appropriate, including DAS and software specific roadshows. Contact with software account managers, attendance on regular updates and providing input on how the team are utilising features within. Oversee the billing process, reviewing workings of disbursements and authorising bills for RE internal accounts. Prepare and lead software training sessions for the apprentices ensuring new features are known, tried and shared with the team. Other ad-hoc duties as may be required from time to time in order to assist the smooth running of the practice or provide additional assistance to clients and the wider Accounting Solutions team. Key Skills, Abilities and Personal Attributes Significant previous experience in accounts preparation, book keeping and VAT work, operating at the level of Accounts Senior or equivalent and qualified to at least AAT level 4 standard (or equivalent by experience) Confidence in using accounting software packages including Sage, Xero, QuickBooks Online, Dext, and confident Excel skills, as well as an interest in continuing to develop knowledge in this area. Can demonstrate a strong technical and commercial knowledge and understanding of accounts processes including (but not limited to) knowledge of current accounting standards, VAT and corporation tax matters Ability to work autonomously, but also collaboratively supporting colleagues as needed Flexible and adaptable approach to work, particularly during peak periods of work The ability to communicate confidently with colleagues and clients and to quickly build good working relationships and maintain rapport.
