Our Public Sector Client is looking for a Principal Health and Safety Consultant to join their team on an initial 6 months contract basis.
Job Purpose
Provide professional support to all employees and non-employees (such as volunteers, contractors, stakeholders, service users, etc.) on a common and consistent approach to all health and safety matters, aligned with IOSH's values, using a holistic approach.
Support the Head of Natural and Marine Environment in the provision of, and embedding, communication, consultation, participation, maintenance, and monitoring of Parks and Harbour Service specific safety management within our occupational health and safety management system to ensure the prevention of occupational injury/ill health, improved performance/culture/participation, and compliance.
Key Job Outcomes/Accountabilities
1. Seek to appoint a Senior H & S Consultant to support services. The role is to be split between each service area: 2 days at the Harbour and 2 days working with Parks. The overall objective is to ensure that quality assurance and compliance activities and processes are in place to meet our statutory obligations relating to the Harbour and Parks Estate.
2. There will be a requirement to audit and stress test all current processes and documentation, devise, and deliver a programme of work which will include a list of key specific tasks.
3. Devise and deliver a programme of work to include a specific list of tasks.
4. Prepare a forward H & S management system based on HSG65, including a profile of resources and service staff allocation to H & S compliance tasks.
5. The candidate will have prior experience and be able to demonstrate senior level stakeholder engagement and evidence of the ability to understand relevant policy and translate it into working arrangements. They will need a strong and consistent track record of successful service delivery outcomes across a range of services related to green and blue space.
6. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly build effective working relationships and influence people at all levels.
7. Must be highly motivated and able to work off their own initiative as well as in a collaborative environment.
8. Must have good decision-making abilities and the capacity to work at pace in a multi-complex and diverse service. The candidate must have demonstrable experience of starting and finishing project work for health and safety that is outcome-based.
