What you'll be doing
Working within one of our Systems Engineering, or Technology Management teams, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams, combining knowledge of technology and innovation with clarity of thinking to support our clients protect their business operations, enable greater performance, and to drive for a more sustainable world. Your skills would be called upon to:
1. Supporting technology horizon scanning across a variety of industries and sectors. Expanding knowledge of leading-edge technologies, through literature studies and research. Applying systems engineering tools and techniques to gauge the potential value of technology to our client's needs.
2. Undertaking concept studies, options assessment and investment decisions. Considering technology readiness and risk, while developing robust roadmaps against which we support our clients to work through and evolve.
3. Supporting owners and operators throughout their asset's lifecycle. Evaluating their current operations, in terms of systems, people, data etc. Building processes and tools to improve and optimise their operations and physical assets.
4. Managing programmes of research and innovation, developing collaborative teams from both within Frazer-Nash and our industry partners.
As a Systems Engineering and Technology Engineer you will be responsible for:
Technical:
1. Delivering high quality technical work and analysis of systems, using clear systems thinking to breakdown the challenges.
2. Analysing and understanding options, proposing solutions to overcome challenges, and communicating these clearly and concisely.
3. Understanding uncertainty around technology, being able to evaluate technology options in the context of benefit and risk.
4. Authoring and verifying technical deliverables.
Project management:
1. Managing projects in accordance with our ISO-9001 accredited processes and acting as technical lead.
2. Working with colleagues within and outside your disciplines to deliver multidisciplinary projects.
Consultancy:
1. Helping shape our service development plans and strategies to maximise the value we provide to the global market.
2. Developing new business by representing Frazer-Nash at conferences, seminars and prospective client meetings.
3. Responding to enquiries and writing bids.
Our projects are very diverse and can last from a few weeks to many years of sustained support. You will typically be involved with multiple projects at any one time. You will meet and communicate with customers to understand their requirements and develop your project plan to deliver the desired outcomes and insights. Frazer-Nash empowers its staff to manage the delivery of the project themselves at an early stage in their careers. Reporting to your Group Leader, you will be accountable for your own work, but also help support others in the team.
Requirements
What You'll Need
The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Specialist knowledge in the area of systems engineering through a PhD, DPhil or EngD.
2. Aptitude for communicating methods and results to specialists and non-specialists through writing high quality reports and presenting technical papers at conferences.
3. Have an interest in working with our clients, to understand their needs, define the challenge, and evaluate potential solutions.
4. Be a strong team player but with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:
1. Experience of working with owners and operators of engineered assets across their lifecycle.
2. Experience of using structured futures assessment methods, and Systems Engineering techniques.
3. Experience in writing proposals, client liaison and business development.
4. Be working towards Chartered Engineer status.
