Job Description:
RETTEW, a leading engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated group of professionals and make a significant impact on our projects and clients.
As a Senior Traffic Engineer at RETTEW, the candidate could be involved in a variety of projects. While the specific projects would depend on the current needs of the company and its clients, they might include:
* Traffic Impact Studies: Analyzing the potential impact of new developments on the existing traffic network.
* Roadway Design: Designing new roadways or improving existing ones to enhance traffic flow and safety.
* Traffic Signal Design: Designing and optimizing traffic signal timings to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
* Traffic Management Plans: Developing plans for managing traffic during special events or construction activities.
* Pedestrian and Bicycle Infrastructure: Designing infrastructure to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage traffic engineering projects.
2. Attend municipal meetings in Lancaster, PA.
3. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop effective solutions.
4. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
5. Deliver technical guidance, direction, and training in area of expertise to project team and across Teams or Practices.
6. Develop and review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
7. Analyze complex engineering projects to determine design requirements, uncertainties, and constraints.
8. Plan, develop, and coordinate the technical phases of a large project or a number of small projects with complex features.
9. Perform research, conduct investigations, and draft reports and opinions.
10. As an individual researcher or member of a project team, conduct complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures.
11. As applicable, perform or oversee inventories, investigations, site visits, and studies.
12. Keep informed of and share updates to standards, regulations, and best practices.
13. Develop, prepare, and/or oversee the execution of applications, permits, and specifications for assigned projects.
14. Review drawings and specifications for quality control (QC).
15. As required, assist in planning, directing, and supervising the work of the project team.
16. Maintain and advance knowledge in area(s) of expertise.
17. As requested, assists in the selection of staff in area of expertise.
Program, Project and Task Management
1. Perform QC on technical portions of projects.
2. Manage project budgets and schedules to ensure timely completion and cost-effectiveness.
3. As a technical specialist, develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be conducted by others.
4. Develop and review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
5. Maintain a thorough knowledge of several functional areas and specialize in one.
6. Serve as a technical advisor and knowledge resource on the project team.
7. Evaluate and recommend new and/or improved ways to complete an assignment or project.
8. Support the development of workplans with resource-loaded schedules, scopes, and budgets.
9. Supervise assigned staff necessary to complete assignments.
10. Contribute to the preparation proposals or obtain funding for engineering projects/programs.
11. Meet with internal and external clients and attend meetings.
12. Assist in setting up and maintaining project-related files.
13. Cultivate relationships with new and existing clients to maintain and expand our client base.
14. Collaborate with other departments and teams within the company to ensure seamless project execution.
15. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in bridge engineering.
Management, Supervision, and Guidance
1. Receive supervision and guidance from the Team Lead and Director relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
2. Receive direction the Team Lead and Director on unusual conditions and developments.
3. Provide mentored experience to direct reports, other engineers, and technical staff.
4. Demonstrate professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering, including creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability.
5. As a technical advisor, coach, or mentor assists other members of the project team and designated staff.
Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership
1. Possess advanced oral and written communication skills, including interpretation of complex technical and contractual matters.
2. Consider the needs of diverse project stakeholders.
3. Lead project meetings and represents the organization in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
4. Analyze and select principles of formal communication, effective teamwork, and various pathways to developing leadership.
Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
2. Professional Engineer (PE) license.
3. 10-15 years of experience in traffic engineering.
4. Proficient in traffic modeling software.
5. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
