We have just moved into brand-new innovative offices in Leeds city centre right next to the train station, and we currently have a new opportunity for a Management Information Analyst to join our highly respected team (3 days in the office / 2 days from home). The role can be based at either our Leeds or Manchester office but will involve occasional travel between the two locations. The Markel Direct Division offer a range of insurance products including professional indemnity, public liability, employers liability, D&O, property, occupational personal accident, legal representation and employment cover, and cyber. Our distribution channels fall in to 3 key categories: Markets which are created through direct to consumer channels. Online or via our UK call centre, through our white label introducer network and our most recent development is the creation of our digital partner proposition, providing API integrations into Insurtechs or broker platforms. We have two retail brands that attract customers from different sectors of the micro/SME market: Markel Direct - which has been running for 10 years and targets multiple sectors including IT, fitness, Therapists, Photographers and Charities & Community Group. Caunce O’Hara - which offers specialist insurance to contractors, consultants, freelancers, self-employed professionals and to the oil & rail sectors. In this new role, you'll be the data expert supporting the Direct leadership Team by participating in commercial discussions and fostering data-driven choices. Collaborating with the Direct Teams, you'll meet data needs and ensure regular insights reporting. You'll also work with partners and business analysts on key projects. You will be responsible for ensuring reports adhere to central data standards. Working with the Direct Operations & Change Team, you'll serve as the main Subject Matter Expert (SME) on data for all change projects, aiding cases and monitoring benefits. You'll bring expertise in data analysis while fostering strong relationships by comprehending business needs and influencing key partners at all organisational levels. As our MI Analyst you will provide technical expertise to assist the design and implementation of our reporting strategy and use reporting tools to develop and support activity across the business What you’ll be doing: Assist in creating reporting and data specifications for projects to meet business objectives and priorities Participate in projects where data is required to support or evidence the benefit of planned operational change Review MI/Reporting, seeking areas for improvements and/or rationalisation to enhance effectiveness Ensure that the needs of business clients/users are fully understood and proactively resolve issues and queries in order to facilitate effective reporting Responsible for the production of our monthly and quarterly performance management data Maintaining and delivering Direct reporting needs to central data team using Power BI as the primary visualisation tool Acting as primary support for Direct teams to meet their data requirements Producing high-quality, accurate data and MI outputs for crucial business decisions Collaborating with senior management to gather requirements, lead discussions, and implement these changes Ensuring consistent preparation of reporting while maintaining data standards Responding to all ad-hoc requests alongside a portfolio of regular reporting Managing regulatory reporting MI needs and respond within regulated timeframes Recognising and encouraging the business to leverage opportunities in advanced analytics, use data effectively, and propose solutions for efficient delivery Gathering, evaluating, and outlining business data needs to give to a technical business analyst for developing technical specifications Our must haves: Experience working in insurance or the financial services sector Subject matter expertise in technology architectures and processes related to data transfer Skilled in generating insights by developing important metrics or dashboards, with a preference for using Power BI as the technology Up-to-date knowledge of data privacy & security standards in an Insurance context Proven ability to impact and foster relationships with partners across various levels Possess a deep knowledge of statistics, practical expertise with statistical tools (such as SQL, Excel, and Power BI MS), and be skilled in data analysis languages Demonstrated experience in developing a data strategy and enhancing business processes, particularly those involving data and management information Able to collaborate with other technical departments within the company to promote the use of modelling, automation, and analytics Possesses excellent problem-solving skills and can thoroughly analyse business details Possess the ability to articulate clearly, particularly when converting intricate data into user-friendly and comprehensible information for colleagues and other collaborators Who we are: Markel Corporation (NYSE – MKL) a Fortune 500 company with over 60 offices in 20 countries, is a holding company for insurance, reinsurance, specialist advisory and investment operations around the world.
