Job Title: Principal Engineer – Product Safety Engineering
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Brough, Filton, Frimley, Portsmouth, Weymouth or Manchester. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Circa £55,000
What you’ll be doing:
As the Principal Engineer – Product Safety Engineering you have the opportunity to work within the Dreadnought programme on highly complex systems within the Submarine. You will be responsible for the governance of safety analysis and assessment activities, assuring process approvals, and providing feedback and constructive criticism when there are problematic areas that need to be addressed. You will also be required to educate wider areas of the business to ensure the team adheres to policies.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Chartered Engineer or working toward chartership or equivalent experience
* Experienced in Industrial Controls Systems
* TUV Functional Safety Expert
* Experienced in both software and hardware
* IEC 61508 or IEC 61511
Desirable:
* Strong knowledge of Cyber Safety
* Understanding of Defence Standards
* Previous experience with the Defence Industry (e.g., MoD)
* Submarine Engineering experience (Naval or Industry)

The Product Safety Team:
As part of the Product Safety Team working in two areas of Delivery Process and Governance Process, you will support the team as we move to the next critical step of the project to help deliver product safety ready for the build phase. You will be exposed to new technologies throughout the build process while modifying existing technologies to accommodate today’s build. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
