Job Introduction Would you like to be part of the daytime programme for BBC Radio Somerset? We have an opportunity for a great journalist to join us as a producer working on Simon Parkin's programme. You'll be finding and telling great stories from across Somerset. Whatever the story, we want someone that is creative and can help bring stories to life for our listeners. You'll be a self-starter, who knows how to find the best stories and guests, but we also want a responsible pair of hands with an understanding of BBC values and editorial guidelines. As well as delivering for radio, you'll also need to think about digital content (including photos and videos). A knowledge of Somerset would be an advantage, but we're mainly after someone with great ideas and experience of on-air programme production. Main Responsibilities As a Journalist: You'll be a producer for BBC Radio Somerset's daytime programme presented by Simon Parkin. You'll work every day with the presenter and alongside another producer. You will be pitching stories and guests - and planning/booking the daily show. You'll also play a role in creating digital content for BBC online, social media and BBC Sounds. You may occasionally be asked to cover other shifts on the rota, which could include early or late shifts, or weekend working. Are you the right candidate? You will: Be a self-starter who knows a good local story and how to find it. Have the ability to use technology as required. You'll ideally have experience of the technology required for on-air studio programme production. Be able to demonstrate a creative approach to story-telling. Build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people, especially the programme presenter and fellow producer. Have significant experience as a journalist (especially programme production), with a good knowledge of production techniques. Have effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities. Demonstrate sound editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC's distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairs coverage and the audience. Understand how a team works effectively. Demonstrate a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC. Have the ability to write creatively in an engaging manner and edit audio to a high standard. Have an understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting. About the BBC The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk. We don't focus simply on what we do - we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you've read about our values and behaviours here. Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential. We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC - whether that's to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity. We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise. To find out more about Diversity and Inclusion at the BBC, please click here. LI-DNI
