Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for research and teaching in tropical diseases. We are looking to appoint a world leading immunologist with a strong record of working in the human pathogen and/or tropical disease research areas, as a Professor of Immunology within our highly esteemed Tropical Disease Biology department.
The successful candidate will have the autonomy to shape the research portfolio within immunology at LSTM. Key areas include research across major human infections, enhancing infection models, and leveraging existing research centres for the discovery of antibody-based biologics.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Initiate, develop, deliver, lead and publish research in immunology using innovative methodologies.
2. Enhance the reputation of LSTM in immunology research.
3. Collaborate with academics in developing capacity for immunology research.
4. Develop a multidisciplinary research programme in human immunology.
5. Lead on innovative curriculum design and quality standards of LSTM teaching programmes.
6. Develop global partnerships and collaborations, generating grant income.
7. Articulate and deliver academic vision and leadership.
8. Effectively lead, manage and mentor a team of senior academic and business support staff.
The successful candidate:
1. PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
2. Extensive knowledge of subject area with a strong research reputation.
3. Outstanding record of international level peer reviewed publications.
4. Strong record of generating significant external funding.
5. Proven record of research leadership in a HEI.
6. Considerable leadership and management experience.
7. Experience of academic governance and administration.
8. Proven experience of effective curriculum development.
9. Enthusiastic and entrepreneurial approach to work.
