Job Title: Fire Safety Advisor – Council Housing
Location: North London Local Authority - Hybrid (Site visits, Office, and Work-from-home)
Day Rate: £300 per day (inside IR35) may be flexibility for exceptional candidates
Contract: 3-month initial contract (potential extension)
Reports to: Council Housing Health and Safety Manager
About the Role
Baltimore Consulting are partnered with a North London Local Authority who are seeking a Fire Safety Advisor to join their Corporate Health and Safety Team. This role ensures the Council meets its statutory fire safety obligations across its residential and commercial property portfolio. As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will provide expert fire safety advice, conduct risk assessments, and work closely with internal departments and external partners, including the London Fire Brigade, to manage fire risk effectively.
This hybrid role involves a combination of site visits, office work, and remote working, offering flexibility while maintaining a strong presence across Council properties.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct fire risk assessments for complex and non-complex residential buildings and places of assembly.
2. Provide fire safety advice to Senior Managers, the Housing Department, and other council teams.
3. Support fire safety management across new-build developments and property acquisitions.
4. Liaise with the London Fire Brigade and other agencies to enhance fire safety.
5. Review post-fire incidents, conduct investigations, and recommend improvements.
6. Analyse fire safety data to identify trends and potential risks.
7. Assist in developing and improving fire safety policies and procedures.
About You:
1. Level 5 or higher qualification in Fire Safety or Fire Safety Engineering from a recognised fire sector professional body.
2. Membership of a recognised professional body (Fire Sector or Construction Body at Graduate level or higher).
3. Minimum 5 years’ experience conducting fire risk assessments in the social housing sector.
4. Strong knowledge of building construction methods.
5. A valid driving license and business-use insurance.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Fire Door Inspector certification and/or Fire Stopping Inspection Diploma.
2. Registration as a 'life safety assessor' (or willingness to achieve this during probation)
