Applications are invited for the role of Portfolio Pathway (CESR) Specialty Registrar in Anaesthesia (ST4 or equivalent and above) for an innovative, multi-trust, rotational programme recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA). The programme is based across 5 leading NHS trusts across central and NW London (LNWUH / Chelsea & Westminster / National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery / Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals / Hillingdon Hospital).
The advertised post offers excellent clinical experience with a wide and varied case-mix across all modules required for Stage 2 & 3 sign-off under the 2021 RCoA Curriculum. Completion of the rotation will therefore prepare successful candidates for application to the GMC for Portfolio Pathway in Anaesthesia.
Close support, educational supervision and mentorship are provided to postholders across each rotational site with all clinical and non-clinical components of Portfolio Pathway application catered for.
Salary details: MN37 starting from £41,754-64,288 + 1A banding [50% basic salary supplementation] + London weighting £2,162.00 per annum.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will work with their designated educational supervisor to design and develop a programme of clinical work that suits their individual professional goals and objectives. Doctors will also be required to contribute to departmental academic, teaching, clinical governance and audit programmes.
The post-holder must work professionally and courteously with patients, their relatives and representatives, and all staff members.
The post assumes a thorough understanding of the changes taking place within the NHS; the vision, the goals and the impact of these on the provision of care and training of trainee doctors in the NHS. The post-holder will work under the supervision of consultant colleagues and alongside senior managers within the Directorate to deliver the overall strategic agenda for surgery and anaesthetics in the clinical setting.

Person Specification
Academic achievements including research/publications
* Evidence of research skills and experience
* Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training completed
* Publications in peer-reviewed medical journals or medical textbooks
Teaching & Training Audit
* Evidence of active participation within the last 12 months of QI/audit and teaching relevant to Anaesthetics or ICM
* Formal teacher/trainer qualification
* Evidence of leadership role(s) and management activity
Relevant experience in specialty/Subspecialty
* 36 months experience in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine (not including Foundation modules), of which at least thirty months is in Anaesthetics
* 1 year of anaesthetic/ICU experience in NHS
* Experience in sub-specialty areas of Anaesthesia
Clinical Skills
* RCoA 2021 curriculum Stage 1 equivalence sign off or equivalent experience (with supporting evidence at Portfolio Pathway application standard) or RCoA 2021 curriculum partial Stage 1 completion WITH RCoA 2021 curriculum Stage 2 and Stage 3 signed off HALOs
* RCoA 2021 curriculum Stage 2 and Stage 3 HALO evidence
* Other sub-specialist interests (with supporting evidence at CESR application standard)
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, GMC registration with license to practice
* PLAB (if needed)
* Primary FRCA or RCoA Equivalent test of knowledge
* Intercalated BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent
* Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD (where research thesis not part of first medical degree)
* ALS, ATLS, APLS, EPALS or equivalent
Knowledge and Expertise
* 36 months experience in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine (not including Foundation modules), of which at least thirty months is in Anaesthetics
* Experience in sub-specialty areas of Anaesthesia
Language
* Highly proficient English language skills (written and spoken)
* IELTS
