An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).
This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.
BACKGROUND TO THE POST
WCG has three core values, the first of which is to put the student first. The role of the Specialist Learning Mentor – Mental Health is to provide individual, personal support for a named student on a one-to-one basis.
The main purpose of this post is to support the named student within their learning programme and help them towards being an independent learner.
The student needs will have been identified in an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or through a referral from the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health.
The majority of your time will be spent with the identified student in a 1-1 mentoring situation. This could be Face-Face, via Google Meet, email or phone call. Occasionally you may be required to support in class.
There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks, for example, recording student progress and supporting student retention and achievement.
This post reports directly to the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health.
This post may include:
• High mental stress levels.
• Challenging behaviours.
• Working outdoors.
• Travelling to the different centres, therefore, full driving license required.

Essential Attainments:
✓Educated to Level 3, preferably to degree level.
✓GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or Level 2 Equivalent qualification.
✓Previous experience of supporting young people with Mental Health Issues.
✓Good IT skills.
✓A qualification relevant to Mental Health.
Desirable Attainments:
✓Previous experience of working in Further Education and Higher Education.
✓Previous experience of supporting students with Mental Health.
✓Relevant Vocational background
