We are looking for a talented Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Complex Health Needs Service (CHNS) as part of the Learning Disability and Autism division based at Carrswood Day Services, Bath.
You will join a friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team of specialist health care professionals working together to provide a range of services for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism in Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES). We believe strongly that our services should be person centred and enable the people we work with to have choice and control in their lives.
You will contribute to assessment, formulation, and care planning, as well as providing teaching and training to colleagues and partner organisations within B&NES on a range of conditions and therapeutic approaches.
This post is for 37.5 hours a week, core service hours are 6:00am to 8.00pm with typical hours being 9.00am to 5.00pm though these may change depending on service requirements.
This role requires community visits to be undertaken meaning a driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.
Main Responsibility
As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist your days will be varied but responsibilities may include:
1. Independently managing a complex caseload using advanced clinical reasoning to support assessments.
2. Providing specialist occupational therapy and MDT working to fulfil clinical responsibilities in managing complex needs; challenging behaviour; dementia; autism; profound and multiple disabilities and those in transition from children to adult services.
3. Contributing to the coordination of the dementia pathway.
4. Acting in an advisory capacity to Individuals, families, and support staff.
5. Supporting Individuals to receive a comprehensive assessment of needs and risks.
6. Ensuring effective communication where there may be barriers to understanding and acceptance.
7. Developing close working relationships between service users, families, carers, and all relevant agencies.
8. Supervising junior occupational therapists; assistant practitioners and support staff.
9. Contributing to the development of person/centred support plans.
10. Carrying out detailed assessments utilising knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice e.g. MOHO, COPM, AMPS.
11. Monitoring and evaluating intervention to measure progress, effectiveness and outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced occupational therapist or a band 5 looking to progress in their career!
You will have access to regular clinical and management supervision to enable you to work autonomously and develop specialist skills. We have excellent in-house training and access to external courses to facilitate your work and future CPD.
Our ideal candidates will have:
1. Experience undertaking specialist assessments with highly complex individuals.
2. Experience providing therapeutic interventions with adults with complex needs and/or enduring mental health problems.
3. Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
4. Current HCPC registration.
5. Evidence of CPD.
6. A driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
