Willowcare trust are looking for a community worker for a cycling project.
Salary: WT Grade 3 £25,840 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends when required
Contract: Fixed Term until March 2026
Entitlement: 40 days A/L including PH’s (pro rata from start date) Scottish Widows pension scheme
Location: Barrowfield Community Centre, 67 Yate St, Glasgow G31 4AQ
Main Responsibilities

- Be responsible for and support the continuation and development of the existing cycling project in Barrowfield.
- Develop and support the expansion of the cycling project in two new communities, Springburn and Woodlands.
- Recruit, induct, and support volunteers who will provide bike repair, maintenance and led cycle sessions.
- Organise and ensure volunteers complete recognised formal qualifications such as Velotech training courses, First Aid, health and safety and cycle leader training.
- Play a key role in building relationships with the local communities through engagement and involving local people and partners in the project.
- Produce promotional materials to market and promote the project through a range of methods to reach new audiences.
- Organise, plan and deliver community events and activities such as free bike clinics, rides, or bike donation drives.
- Manage the processes and record-keeping, with regards to the repair and refurbishment of bikes, as well as the receipt and distribution of donated bikes to people in need within the community.
- Work with project volunteers to ensure repairs are done to a high standard of safety and functionality.
- Work with volunteers to maintain an inventory of bike parts and tools; assist with reordering parts as necessary.
- Be a key holder and provide cover at the Barrowfield Community Hub, Charing Cross Hub and the Cowlairs community flat including opening and closing of the bases.
- Identify and address gaps in provision, and work in partnership to support the aspirations of local people.
- Investigate and develop opportunities for the project to maintain grant income.
Identify and develop approaches to overcome the barriers to participation within the project, particularly for disadvantaged or marginalised groups.
- Actively signpost, refer and support community members to partner organisations’ activities and services.
- Assist in raising awareness about issues relevant to the community in relation to active travel and cycling.
- Ensure the monitoring, recording, and evaluation of all activities.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to all cross team working.
- Participate in regular support and supervision sessions.
- Participate in team and organisational meetings and training.
- Ensure data is accurately recorded and processed in line with Willowacre Trust and West of Scotland Housing Association’s policy and procedures, meeting GDPR requirements.
- Ensure a safe environment for the cycling project volunteers and participants, by complying with the Health and Safety Policy and procedures, and notifying their manager of any unsafe working practice/conditions.
- Ensure the values of Willowacre Trust / West of Scotland Housing Association are reflected in their work and that all services provided are delivered in line with the Vision, Mission, and Core Values
- Act as an ambassador for Willowacre Trust and West of Scotland Housing Association.
