As an Ambulance Care Assistant, you will work on the non-emergency side of the ambulance service. You will be transporting patients to and from hospitals, day centres, and clinics for routine appointments and between NHS Trusts as and when required.
Our patients are usually older adults or less abled people; however, you will work with people from all walks of life. This may include individuals with Dementia and Mental Health issues, as they are often users of our services.
Here at 360 Ambulance Service, we pride ourselves on providing a progressive and welcoming working environment. We are currently looking for people to join our team as Ambulance Care Assistants.
You will usually start each day at our Ambulance Station, meeting your crew mate and ensuring your vehicle is ready for the day. You are responsible for your patients' welfare, required moving and handling, and driving safely throughout the journey to ensure passenger comfort. You may also need to offer reassurance to anxious patients, gently explain situations to patients who are confused, and treat each person in a way that enables them to maintain their dignity and independence.
An ACA will often need to assist patients to stand from wheelchairs; you must be very skilled in moving and handling techniques and using specialist equipment when needed.
ACAs have first aid and basic life-support skills in case they need to use these while transporting patients. If you have a FREC 3 qualification or equivalent, please inform us of this on application; however, full training can be provided.
You have the responsibility to check, clean, and disinfect the ambulance and restock any used supplies. To help the patient keep their records up to date, you will need to fill in Patient Report Forms, transfer forms, as well as report all incidents and accidents.
